Cricothyroidotomy Task Trainer

When creating this simulator, the main focus was on functionality and affordability, due to destructive nature of the cric training. It has all the important landmarks (including hyoid bone), mobile larynx (for ‘laryngeal handshake’), easy to replace cricothyroid membrane and much more.

Use It to Teach:

  • needle and surgical cricothyroidotomy
  • fona (front of neck access) airway management
  • anatomy and landmarks important to the cric procedure

Main Features

made using real data

To design the cric trainer, various MRI scans and photogrammetry files were used.

Hand-made with attention to details

we use prosthetic grade silicone and power mesh to ensure that our models are both realistic and durable.

realistic landmarks

landmarks include:

  • thyroid cartilage
  • cricoid cartilage
  • hyoid bone
  • sternal notch

tape

we decided to use duct tape for cricothyroid membrane. Not only because it is cheap. It is also similar to real thing (based on literature and our animal tissue research).

inside view

we decided to add it after studying most common injuries that happen during cricothyroidotomy. Inside view is important to check the cut depth and et tube insertion angles.
